As a follow up to the last post, where I cautioned broadly about purchasing laptop parts direct from the manufacturer, I thought I would write about the beautifully simple process of ordering my new business laptop.

On realisation that repairing my old laptop would cost nearly the same as purchasing a new one I set about finding the best company from which to order a new HP 6175b. I looked at a few companies including PC World Business, Dabs.ie, and Insight. Due to a fairly urgent need to have a working laptop (by next Friday), I wanted to get the new laptop as quickly as possible.

Looking through the options, Dabs.ie turned out to be the cheapest – however there was no delivery option and I could only go with a 3-4 day delivery, which would have resulted in me not receiving the laptop until possibly Tuesday or Wednesday. PC World were a little more expensive than either Dabs or Insight, and I had some delays and problems when I purchased my now defunct laptop from them¹.

So Insight looked the most likely candidate. They offered an “Eire Express” delivery service and were pretty good on price. I initiated the purchase and, due to purchasing from the UK, we required no VAT to be charged. I contacted sales and the order was dealt with by Dean Garbett in a most efficient and friendly manner.

After looking through all the options and finalising my order yesterday morning, I emailed a copy of our VAT registration certificate along with details of the order. Within 1 hour I had an email confirming the order and 2 hours later I had a despatch confirmation. The laptop arrived at around noon today.

I am thrilled with the speed and efficiency of this order and would highly recommend Insight². Not just for their speed of service, but also I was pleased to see that their website offers a decent system for filtering laptop choices by components³.

1. Firstly, there was problems with ordering VAT exempt. I believe there were also delays processing payment. Finally, when the laptop was delivered it was left outside our back door in the rain!

3. most importantly they include screen resolution as an option – something glossed over by many companies
