  • Internet Explorer Losing Market Share

Our somewhat nerdy slant to “the year in review”, we’re pretty happy to report on some statistics showing Internet Explorer consistently losing market share over the course of 2008.

Most importantly in this post we highlight the slow but consistent drop in usage of IE6, Microsoft’s aging web browser.

  • checktheregister.ie – why bother?

How difficult could it be to check if you are registered to vote in your area?

Thanks to the council and government created website checktheregister.ie it’s a pointless endeavour that should be avoided at all costs.

  • Irish Web Technology Conference Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Tuesday 26th February, marks the opening of the first Irish Web Technology conference in Dublin’s Cineworld complex on Parnell Street.

There’s a whole range of events covering a diverse range of topics relating to web design, coding, venture capital, usability and much more.

  • Understanding web design

Web design is not a simple process and it relies not just on a good designer producing something that has the perfect look, but on good communication between client and designer.

  • Ireland: The soul of web site development

It looks like there are some lovers of the Irish way of things, whether we’re talking about web development, API mashups, or good old Guinness.

Pixelapes couldn’t make it along to Mashup Camp Dublin, but it certainly sounds like it was inspiring and a lot of fun to boot. We’ll keep an eye out for the next one.

  • Good and bad news for web design in Ireland

News is out about Ireland’s poor broadband usage but the poor figures are made less painful by the news that broadband subscribers are increasing at a very high rate.

We look at what affect this has on web designers and some other statistics that will affect how web designers work in Ireland.

  • Irish Web Design Awards

The Golden Spider awards are fast approaching. These awards put themselves forward as the Oscars of web design in Ireland, and considering their high-profile amongst Irish web-users we decided to take a closer look at what previous years have delivered.

The results don’t paint a pretty picture, especially if you consider web-design based on standards and accessibility to be an important factor. Web design in Ireland is littered with archaic coding practices and we thought that a web awards system would consider it important to reward the forward-thinking companies that have embraced web standards. Unfortunately this is not the case.
